Cummins Named a Top Company for Diversity

COLUMBUS, IN -- (Marketwired) -- 04/26/13 -- Cummins Inc. (NYSE: CMI) has been named one of the Top 50 Companies for Diversity by DiversityInc for the seventh consecutive year. Cummins, which ranks 15th this year and moved up three spots from 2012, was selected from more than 890 companies that participated.

  • CEO Commitment: accountability for results, personal communications, visibility
  • Human Capital: five levels of management, promotions in and into management
  • Corporate and Organizational Communications: mentoring, resource groups, philanthropy, consistency/effectiveness of diversity-management initiatives
  • Supplier Diversity: spend with M/WBE companies, as well as companies owned by LGBT people, people with disabilities, veterans

On its website, DiversityInc cites Cummins' continued diversity leadership as one of many reasons for its outstanding ranking, writing: "The company continues to be an overall diversity-management leader... Diversity goals are part of executive-performance reviews, and executive sponsorship of resource groups is included in those goals. Resource groups are available to all employees, including hourly/shift workers."
